Homeowner Maintance FAQ

If I am leaving for a long time, should I turn anything off?

You should not shut off the FHP, as doing so may affect the black start after the battery power is exhausted. Some people may consider switching modes if they are leaving for a season where they are more concerned about outages or high bills but nothing needs to be changed if you are not going to be home for long periods of time for them to continue functioning.

What should I do if my system shuts off after some appliance kicks on?

If the FHP turns off after the air conditioner and/or water pump is turned on, check that the grid power supply is working properly.

Some high-power equipment, such as air conditioners and water pumps, require very large initial electric current. If the grid power supply is not working properly, starting such devices may result in an abnormal shutdown of the aPower. If this happens, it is recommended to shut down the high-power equipment, restart the FHP, and then start each device one at a time.

Can a homeowner fix their system if an issue arises?
No, please do not. The installation, maintenance and replacement of the aPower and aGate  units must be done by FranklinWH certified technicians. If you reach out to our support line we may request photos or ask you to verify a solid internet connection, maybe reset the monitoring device with a quick on off switch but usually we will go through your installer for most major onsite troubleshooting needs.
Can I make any modifications to my equipment?
No. Please do NOT attempt to modify your aPower and aGate units. Failure to follow this may void the warranty and may result in equipment malfunction, electrical shock, serious injury or death.

What if I want to add more batteries?

We recommend contacting your local installer for a quote. If you need help locating a certified installer, just give us a call. Please do not attempt to install additional batteries by yourself.

How do I keep my FHP clean?

Clean the equipment surface using a soft cloth. If water is needed, please make sure the cloth is slightly damp (water only) and the equipment is completely de-energized. Don’t block the vents.
